Meet the Breast Asymmetry Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs breast and body contouring surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what a breast assessment often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience, the assessment of the skin envelope and how it will behave over time, and the dermatologic diagnosis of a skin change that has to be identified before anything cosmetic is planned.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Breast and body contouring · volume, shape and fold assessment · one-sided and combined breast surgery

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the examination that decides which of the four causes is present. He measures both sides rather than the one that prompted the appointment, records where the fold sits on each side and what the chest wall is doing underneath, and treats a difference that comes from the frame as a finding that changes the plan rather than as a detail. Where the honest answer is that clothing manages the difference and no operation is warranted, he says so. His stated discipline is to change only what the measurements justify, and to refuse a plan that would make two breasts match in volume while leaving them at different heights.

Clinical focus

  • Breast assessment that separates volume, shape, fold position and frame
  • Measurement of both sides as the basis of any operative plan
  • One-sided surgery where the difference is confined to one breast
  • Combined lifting and volume where each side needs something different
  • Revision assessment when earlier breast surgery has left a new difference

The cause decides the operation

A difference that comes from volume, from shape, from the fold and from the chest wall looks similar in a mirror and is answered by different operations. Adding volume to a breast whose real problem is a narrow base and a tight lower half tends to make the shape difference more obvious, and operating on the breast for a difference produced by the rib cage leaves the two sides at different heights.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard any plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Patients who arrive with a difference created by an earlier breast operation elsewhere are usually assessed within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · the skin envelope and its quality

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the skin that has to hold whatever is done underneath it: stretch marks, quality, and how the skin behaves when the breast is lifted. That assessment is what decides how much of a difference an operation can hold over time.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · the breast skin and the changes that need diagnosing

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the skin change that is not cosmetic: a dimple, a rash that does not settle, a nipple that has turned in, or redness over one breast. Those are diagnosed before any plan about shape or size is made.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with an assessment, not an operation

Arrange a consultation. We will establish which of the four causes is present in your case, explain what treatment can and cannot change, and set out the options, including doing nothing.
